Edna Valencia Touart Thompson left this world peacefully four days shy of her 99
th
birthday on Friday, February 10, 2017 surrounded by many members of her family.
Edna was born on February 14, 1918 in Pensacola to George and Mary Louise Touart and was one of 6 children. She served as a WAVE in the US Navy stationed in Pensacola for 18 months in 1943/44. There she met and married the love of her life, CPO Felix Thompson. They had a memorable military life with two tours of duty to Hawaii where Edna learned Ancient Hula and was a member of a Hula dance company. She and Felix were married for 62 years. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who always possessed a positive and happy outlook on life. She was a great cook, passing down her famous recipe of Chicken and Oyster Gumbo.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband Felix P. Thompson; parents, George F. and Mary Louise Touart; sisters, Isabelle Thomas and Audrey Thompson; and brothers, Billy and Frank Touart; as well as a granddaughter, Patricia Ann Thompson.
She is survived by her seven children, sons and daughters in law: Robert and Barbara Thompson of Winter Park, FL, Michael and Patricia Thompson and John and Linda Thompson of Pensacola; daughters and sons in law, Mary and Michael Middleton of Port Republic, MD and Juliana and Frank Rawley of Pensacola and daughters Patricia Finlay and Pamela Clyde of Pensacola; 26 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and a brother and sister in law, Clyde and Mary Evelyn Touart of Pensacola.
The family would like to thank Edna's caregivers who loved and cared for her in her home: Kimberly Robbins, Bette Keller, Janice Meyerman, Trish Kouns, and Kathleen Lousteau. They would also like to thank the CNAs, LPNs, and Lynn Helton, Janet Suggs, Carolyn Crisp and the other professional staff at Our Lady of the Haven of Peace who compassionately and lovingly cared for her during the final three months of her life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Fr. Nicholas Schumm celebrant. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:30am prior to the Mass. Reception and visitation will follow the Mass in the Church Parish Hall.
Active Pallbearers will be Matthew Thompson, Jason Middleton, Aaron Finlay, Alexander Thompson, Ryan Thompson and Joseph Rawley.
