IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edra Keen
Jeter
December 29, 1927 – December 24, 2022
Edra Keen Jeter went to Glory to be with her Lord Jesus at Azalea Trace in Pensacola, FL on Christmas Eve, 2022 - just 5 days shy of her 95th birthday. She was lovingly called Gigi by her family and was dearly loved by all who knew her. Edra was born December 29, 1927, in Chattanooga, TN, excelled in academics and sports, attended the University of TN and pledged with the Tri Delta sorority. She married Harold M. Keen, and they welcomed their beloved daughter, Debbie, and moved to Pensacola, FL.
In Pensacola, Edra became a respected real estate broker, owned her own business (Keen Realty), won many special awards, and was active in her business for over 50 years. She was Methodist by faith and was an active singer in the choir for many years. Edra was also a member of the Dreamliners, a Pensacola trio that sang old favorites. They sang with the Navy band on an actual aircraft carrier, Mardi Gras events, Kiwanis, TV, and numerous other venues. Pat Gamwell and Betty Dye Edwards completed the trio, and they sang for decades harmonizing and having the time of their lives.
After becoming a widow at age 45, Edra met and married Norman L. Jeter in 1983. They enjoyed a wonderful life together living on the water and traveling extensively. Edra was always active and after receiving a racket at the age of 65 from her daughter, she started playing tennis at the Pensacola Athletic Club. There she found a wonderful group of ladies, joined a team, and was known to run them all down. Edra continued to play tennis even into her 80's and loved to socialize with her tennis friends.
Edra is preceded in death by her husbands, Harold M. Keen and Norman L. Jeter; her parents, Will and Pearl Varner; and 5 siblings who resided in TN.
She leaves behind her only daughter, Deborah K. Jeter; along with 3 stepchildren, Jim Jeter (Mary), Norman Jeter Jr., and Sewell Susie Griffith (Marty). Edra is also survived by 8 devoted grandchildren, Matthew Cassidy (Carrie), Daniel Cassidy (Debbi), Michael Jeter (Sose), Ella Griffith, Norman Jeter (Jamiee), Nicole Lawrence (Olufemi), Anna Jeter (Kevin) and Jessica Wallace. Gigi was blessed with 12 loving great grandchildren, Reif, Julian, Hunter, Nolan, Bella, Alyssa, Claire, Landon, Sam, Datch, Abby, and Tai.
Edra's exceptionally strong faith compelled her to give generously to multiple charities and to always be at the ready to help others. Everyone that knew Edra knew that she was truly interested in and loved people. She was quick to add people to her prayer list and even enlisted some of her church ladies to crochet prayer shawls and crosses for those in need. Edra had a loving heart, a vivacious personality, a keen wit, and a unique spirit. Even though Edra faced several significant health issues over the past 2 years, she faced each with courage, a strong will and her enduring faith. She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind many special memories. Her last visions were those of family portraits and the crosses and angels that adorned her room. She will be missed immensely.
The family would like to express special thanks to Mary Selig, Sara Morris, the Hospice staff, and all the prayer warriors who have been keeping Edra and our family in prayer.
