IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward Lebron
"Ed" Wells
April 20, 1948 – October 17, 2016
Edward LeBron "Ed" Wells was born in Ringgold, GA to Roy Lee Wells and Dorothy (Finnell) Wells on April 20, 1948. He was raised in Huntsville, AL with his brothers, Gary and Mike. He attended Jefferson State College and the University of Alabama. He served in the Army National Guard from 1966-1968.
Ed had a gentle spirit and sharp wit, which served him well in his occupation in sales. Business connections soon became friends, which was natural given Ed's kindness. He met his wife, Amy Van Matre Wells in Pensacola in 1988. After a beautiful courtship, they were married on September 1, 2000. They lived in Pensacola and enjoyed life on the Gulf Coast, but frequently visited the mountains of Northern Alabama and Tennessee, where Ed had a deep connection. He loved fishing, traveling, reading and gardening. No matter what his circumstances, Ed loved life and his family.
His passing on October 17, 2016 at age 68 is a sad loss to his family, but a triumph in heaven.
Ed was loved by many surviving family members, including his two children, Vicki Wells-Blair and John Edward Wells, who blessed him with beautiful grandchildren: Caylie, Gracie, Angela and Jordan.
Ed enjoyed a special friendship with his father-in-law, Trent Van Matre, who was also one of Ed's favorite traveling buddies.
Ed is survived by his brother, Mike Wells (Patsy) and nephews, Anthony, Ryan and Tyler. He is also survived by brother in law, John Van Matre (Caryn) and nephews, Matt (Kristen) and Jackson and niece, Ashley. Ed was great-uncle to Matthew, Mason and Marleigh Louise.
Ed also had very special relationships with his cousins, Ann, Carolyn and Jimmy, with whom he shared many summer vacations.
Ed was preceded in death by his dear mother and father; brother, Gary; uncles, John and James. He is also preceded in death by his mother in law, Shirley Van Matre. All of them are rejoicing with him in heaven.
Ed was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church at Spanish Trail in Pensacola.
