Obituary

Edward (Ted) Phillips Nickinson, Jr., 91, of Pensacola, FL passed away on May 15, 2018.

Family, faith, and community were the hallmarks of Ted Nickinson's life. His 69-year marriage with Betty was an example and inspiration of love, respect and partnership for their children, extended family and friends. A man who loved to travel, Ted took special delight in his connection with Norway, which provided his honorary knighthood – a title "Sir Ted" wore with respect and humor. Ted and Betty shared fond memories of times at the beach and cruising the Gulf Coast with sailing friends.

Ted cared for his community through service in various organizations, including President of the Chamber of Commerce and helping to establish the National Naval Aviation Museum. He also enjoyed a more personal touch of service, mentoring students at A. K. Suter Elementary School in his later years.

Ted and Betty were charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church, embracing a wide variety of ministries – building campaigns, Sunday school leadership, and Session Clerk for many years. Most especially, their warmth of welcome and joy of Christian fellowship extended God's love to visitors and new members as the church grew.

This man of integrity will be missed, but his influence will continue.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents, E. P. Nickinson and Em Turner Merritt Nickinson; sisters, Betty Nick Chitty and Em Turner Kuhl.

Survivors include wife, Betty K. Nickinson; son, Ed Nickinson (Jean); daughters, Pat Nickinson and Merritt Schatz (Noel); grandchildren, Phillips (Shannon), John (Kelly), and Christopher Nickinson, Jacob and Elizabeth Schatz; great-grandchildren, Mia and Isabella Nickinson.

Memorial service will be held at 7p. m. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Dr. Hugh Hamilton and Rev. Frank Beall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3200 Bayou Blvd. Pensacola, FL 32503, or to a charity of your choice.
