Wright
July 22, 1918 – December 2, 2016
Edward Sykes Wright, AVCM USN (ret), 98, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM, born 22nd of July 1918 in Springfield, MA, crossed over to the other side on Friday the 2nd of December 2016 and will be reunited with deceased wife, Ida Bernice (Jones) Wright of over 50 years and his son, Edward S. Wright, Jr., a veteran of the Vietnam War, who is buried at Punch Bowl National Cemetery in Oahu, HI.
He leaves a second son, Jody S. Wright (Vannesa) of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Shunnett W. Bosarge of Rio Rancho, NM; three grandchildren, Joseph S. Wright and Damien C. Manuel of Ewa Beach, HI, Jeannette B. Wright of Lincoln, CA and three great grandchildren.
He received his Associates Degree from DeVry in Chicago, IL and CREI, in Washington, DC in Radio and Television Engineering specializing in UHF Systems. He was hired by Bendex Radio installing Instrument Landing Systems overseas. He quit and joined the Navy in Springfield, MA.
Ed retired from the Navy with over 33 years of service at Barbers Point, Oahu, HI, and after a Civil Service Career retiring at Pearl Harbor Oahu, HI. He then moved to Florida and hired on with Raytheon, first on the Iranian Hawk Missile Program and later on the Kuwait Patriot Missile Program. He retired in 1988 at the age of 70.
He moved to Pensacola, FL and was active in Masonic Fraternites in Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties. He served as Worshipful Master of Santa Rosa Lodge #16. Ed transferred his membership to Ferry Pass Lodge # 348 as a Perpetual Member. He was also a Honorary Perpetual Member of the following lodges; Escambia #15, Santa Rosa #16, Naval #24, Pensacola #42, Century #213, Ensley #278, West Pensacola #296, East Hill #310, Cantonment #322, Gulf Breeze #347, Pace #349, Myrtle Grove #352, Brentwood #363.
He was a Perpetual Member of Pensacola Scottish Rite, Life Member of Pensacola York Rite, Life Member of the Royal Order of Scotland and Pensacola Zelica Grotto.
Visitation will begin at 12noon followed by Funeral Service at 1:00pm Friday January 6, 2017 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ken Griffin officiating. A Graveside Service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with Full Military Honors and Masonic Services. Mr. Wright will then be laid to rest next to his wife Ida.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Staff of Casa de Shalom, Rio Rancho, NM for their special care to all his needs and also to Compassus Hospice Care for their devotion to Ed and his daughter.
