Whiddon Speirs
October 12, 1924 – June 29, 2016
Edwina "Ed" Whiddon Speirs died on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at her home on Pensacola Beach. A native of Pensacola, Mrs. Speirs was a resident of the Beach for the past 30 years. She graduated from Pensacola High School in 1942, after graduation she married Carl Lee Speirs a Naval Aviator and then attended Florida State College for Women (FSCW) when Lee was in the Pacific during WWII. She later served as the Director of Volunteer Services at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital before returning to her beloved Pensacola Beach. There she lived out the rest of her life taking part in the Pensacola Beach Community United Church and the Women's Club, never forgetting the importance of family and service. She also was an avid Bridge Player for many years with the Beach Bridge Club.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Fran Sue Chuites; her daughter, Dr. Nancy Ann Speirs; and her husband, Carl Lee Speirs, CDR USN ret.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Edwina K. Tinker and Holly Jane Aldridge; a son, Stephen L. Speirs; her grandchildren, Katie L. Collins, Daniel Lee Aldridge, Whiddon M. Macon, Gina M. Mostyn, David M. Aldridge and John Thomas Aldridge, Sr.; and great-grandchildren, Charlie C. Macon, Laurel E. Mathis, Elizabeth R. Depotty, Michael D. Depotty, Justin J. Schofield and John T. Aldridge, Jr.
Visitation will be held 10:00am until the Funeral Service to begin at 11:00am on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Pensacola Beach Community Church. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Daniel L. Aldridge, Tom L. Aldridge, Mike Chuites, Paul Chuites, Whiddon M. Macon, Herman Olson, Steve Tindell and Paul Tinker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pensacola Beach Community Church.
