Elaine S. Rains, 87, of Pensacola passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Mrs. Rains was born in Hartford, AL on May 20, 1923 to Avery and Vera Shields. She resided in Pensacola for the past 21 years. Mrs. Rains was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had worked at the Wainwright Shipyard in Panama City, FL during WWII. She attended Auburn University, and taught school in Geneva, AL, after teaching she became a homemaker and raising her three children. Mrs. Rains was a member of the Cokesbury United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved with the Naomi Circle and the Crafts Groups. Her parents, husband of 43 years CAPT William M. Rains; sister, Gladys Dillard; brother, Grady Shields; and nephew Johnny preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters Janice Rogers (Dr. Jim Rogers) Donna Rains Neuendorf; son Bill Rains (Jannine) granddaughters, Kim and Kelly Rogers, Kaysie Lackey (Scott), Allison Neuendorf; grandson Chad Neuendorf; sister Bernice Deloney (Hank); sister-in-law Ivolene Shields; nieces Elizabeth, Jean, Terri, Judy, Joann, Kathy, Karen, Nicole; nephews Gary and Jerry. A Funeral Cortege will depart Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 9:30am Monday, May 23, 2011 for a Graveside Service at 10:15am at Barrancas National Cemetery. Rev. Ken Griffin will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in memory of Elaine S. Rains to Alzheimers Family Services, 1901 n. Palafox, Pensacola, FL 32501; American Heart Association, 4400 Bayou Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32503; or to toomersfortuscaloosa@yahoo.com a relief fund set up to help the tornado stricken area of Alabama.
