Eleanor Elliott Mabes, 85, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away peacefully Monday, November 22, 2010, with her daughters by her side. Eleanor was born in Roanoke, Virginia on April 5, 1925. She married Marvin L. Mabes in 1948. Eleanor worked in the N&W Railroad office before becoming a full-time homemaker. The family moved to Pensacola in 1955. Eleanor was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and positive outlook on life. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Marvin L. Mabes, Sr., son Lee Mabes, both of Pensacola, parents Harman and Annie Elliott, sisters Louise Elliott and Ruth Beard, and brothers Robert and George Elliott, all of Roanoke. Survivors include daughters Nancy Kellar (Kevin Goudy) of Granville, Ohio and Elaine Sargent (Ken Sargent) of Pensacola, granddaughters Nicole Bennett (Andy Bennett) of Atlanta, Georgia and Tisha Clary of Pensacola, step-granddaughter Amy Sargent of Pensacola, great-grandson Finlay Bennett of Atlanta, brother Warren E. Elliott (Billie Elliott) of Saltville, Virginia, sisters-in-law Dorothy Elliott of Salem, Virginia, Frances Vessey of Troutville,Virginia and Earline Mabes of Vinton, Virginia, and many other family members and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of the Haven of our Lady of Peace for their compassionate care these past few months. They also extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Sacred Heart Hospital who cared for her during her final illness. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, November 26, 2010 at Barrancas National Cemetery, with the Rev. Teresa Leifur, Director of Pastoral Services at West Florida Hospital, officiating. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL.
