Eleanor "Grace" Suggs, 90, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015. She was born in Sampson, AL on October 20, 1924 to Laura (Parker) and Rev. Charles H. McDurmont. Grace was the bell ringer at Cottage Hill Methodist Church where her father ministered many years ago. She would ring the church bell, up and down she would go. She came from a very loving family. Years later the family moved to Garden Street in Pensacola and lived in a house their father built. Years ago, Grace would go with friends to old Gulf Beach where they would do gymnastics on the beach. Later, Grace somehow met Earl "Ray" Suggs, it was love at first sight, and they soon got married at the Gadsden Street United Methodist Church in 1943. Ray "Mr. Zip" and Grace "Bottledigger" as they were affectionately known, had many hobbies. Deer hunting and fresh water fishing were their favorites. Ray would make cast nets and build bluebird houses while Grace would create jewelry, loved hunting and digging up old bottles and just about anything else she would put her mind to. Rays fried fish and hushpuppies and Grace's beef stew and cornbread dressing were some of the best you would ever want to eat! One day they had a daughter, Deitra, and life changedthey were the happiest parents ever! Grace is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of over 70 years, Earl "Ray" Suggs and her brother, Holland McDurmont. Survivors include her loving daughter, Deitra "Dee" Brazwell (Lynn); grandson, Michael Brazwell; sister, Gladys Pettersen; nieces, Beverly Ann Holtz (Tom) and Janet Wagers; as well as many close family and friends. Visitation and family sharing will be held 11am-12noon Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Private committal will be at Bayview Memorial Park. Special thanks to family, friends and to all those special people who prayed and cared for Grace during her last days here on earth.
