Obituary

Elizabeth P. Betty Butler GiGi 85, of Pensacola passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010, Mothers Day at Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence. She is at peace after battling cancer for ten years. Betty was born in Woodhaven, NY on July 3, 1924. Betty originally moved to Pensacola in the 1940s, after marrying her precious husband, William S. Bill Butler who predeceased her. As a transplanted New Yorker, she was often the innocent victim of Southern Humor , the story most often told was being stopped from baking a Chinese Pineapple (better known to locals) as a Green Pine Cone. Betty had a well developed volunteer spirit devoting over 2000 hours to area organizations; Sacred Heart Womens and Childrens Hospital, Pilot Club International, Favor House, Santa Rosa Womens Club, Providence Hospital (Mobile, AL) and Azalea City Womens Club (Mobile, AL). Betty was very active Mardi Gras in Pensacola and Mobile being a past member of Krewe of Aphrodite, Fiesta Frolickers and Maids of Luna. Betty was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. She will be sadly missed by her daughters Madlynn and Stephanie, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty is survived by her two daughters Madlynn (Larry) of Pensacola, Stephanie (John) of Paris, France; grandchildren include Steve Morgan of Huntsville, AL, Jarrod Morgan (Alaina) of Birmingham, AL, Matthew (Lucy), James, Andrew Lutze of Sydney, Australia and Alison Goetti (Rob) of Zurich, Switzerland; great grandchildren are MaKenzie and Payton Morgan of Huntsville, AL and Madeline Belle Morgan of Birmingham, AL. Visitation will 5:00-7:00pm Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, with Msgr. Raymond Mullins, celebrant. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence in Bettys name for the compassionate care shown during her stay there. It would be impossible to thank every person who unselfishly showed compassion during her journey. The family gratefully acknowledges all care given to her especially Doc, Sarah and caregivers at Westpointe and Northpointe. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
