Elizabeth H. Jones Hoefflin, 94, died peacefully on February 5, 2011. She was a Southern lady in the finest tradition: gracious, loving and dignified. The love of reading and knowledge created her interest in becoming a librarian. She loved driving the bookmobile. Elizabeth began her career as executive secretary to Dr. Henry Ashmore, the first president of Pensacola Junior College. She earned a Masters degree in Library Science from Florida State University and began her career as a librarian at the University of Georgia. She also served as librarian at Okaloosa Junior College before her retirement. Elizabeth was a native of Pensacola and a devoted member of First United Methodist Church for over 65 years. She was formerly married to John Paul Jones and later married John A. Hoefflin, who passed away in August, 1997. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sons, J. David Jones and Charles H. Jones; brothers, James and Harry Hays and sisters, Henry Faye Newton and Winona Hays. She is survived by her children, William M. Jones (Jolinda), Gulf Breeze; Kathryn Margedant Flint (Jim), Atlanta, GA; and Charles' widow, Hilma Jones, Gulf Breeze. Elizabeth is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Greg Jones, Michelle Reeves MacNeil, William M. Mullins, Gavin Jones, Meegan Jones-Mirault, Colin Jones, Kim Margedant, Kay M. Campbell, Jay P. Margedant, Troy Jones, Steven Jones, Sheri Jones Wyche, Eric Jones; and 12 great-grandchildren. Elizabeth is also survived by the daughters of John A. Hoefflin: Barbara H. Aitken (Don), Irvine, CA; Judy H. Pukala, St. Louis, MO; Missy H. Jungling (Gaylen), Tallahassee, FL; Margaret H. Runnels (Tom), Gainesville, FL; ten step-grandchildren: Diana Wall, Patricia Johnston, Meg Aguilor, Rev. Amy Aitken, John Pukala, Joy Pukala, Brian Jungling, Gayle Lazano, Warren Runnels, Wayne Runnels; and twenty step-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all of those who contributed so graciously to Elizabeth's care. Visitation will be held 1:00pm until the Funeral Service to begin at 2:00pm Thursday, February 10, 2011 at First United Methodist Church on Wright Street. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park on Scenic Highway. The family will receive friends following the interment.
