"Doug" Andrews
November 25, 1923 – November 27, 2018
Doug Andrews was born in the Pleasant Grove community of Pensacola, Florida on 11/25/23. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1941. He served as a bomber pilot in the Navy during World War II, then nearly completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida, before being called back into active service during the Korean War. During his Navy career, he served in Norfolk, VA, Glenview, IL, New Orleans, LA, Washington, DC, Atlantic City, NJ, and Ft Lauderdale, FL. Retiring after 26 years in the Navy, he completed his Bachelor's degree from the University of West Florida in Industrial Technology. He was an active member and Deacon of First Baptist Church Pensacola and spent many years serving as a counselor in the Samaritan Hands ministry.
He is preceded in death by his parents James Ellis and Annie Findlay Andrews, three sisters (Louise, Vida and Gladys) and brother (Ray), and his son, Arthur Scott.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edith Andrews, and three children: Alan Andrews, Ann (Larry) Fillingim and Amy (Kent) Cassibry. He is also survived by his brothers Glenn and Warren Andrews, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Visitation will be on December 3, 2018 at 1:00pm at Pleitz Chapel, First Baptist Church Pensacola. Memorial celebration service will follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery on NAS Pensacola prior to these services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan Hands ministry of First Baptist Pensacola.
