IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eloise Covington
Smith
October 23, 1925 – August 15, 2022
Mary Eloise Covington Smith, 96, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, August 15, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Eloise was born October 23, 1925, in Silas, AL. As an Air Force wife, Eloise lived in many different places throughout the United States as well as England and Guam. She dedicated herself to her family and friends and will be remembered for her impeccable sense of style, quick wit, and incredible southern cooking. Eloise loved gardening, fishing, and playing cards, but her greatest joy was being "Ninnie" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Eloise in her 96 years; among those were to work hard and never leave the house without looking your best. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eloise will be missed by all of those who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mattie Ivey Covington and her husband, Walter Gray Smith.
Eloise is survived by her children, Janice Beck (Gregg), Kenneth Smith (Sandra), Theresa Friday (Philip), and Lisa Lyons (Michael); her grandchildren, Autumn Blackledge (Peyton), Justin Beck (Kristin), Allyson Lassiter, Rusty Smith, Caitlin Ballard (Robby), and Casey Smith; great-grandchildren, Ashton Blackledge, Irelyn Thomson, Ella Blackledge, Bryre Thomson, Covington Thomson, Hudson Beck, Shepard Beck, Ingrid Beck, Greyson Smith and Parker Smith; nephews, Wayne Covington and Wayde Covington; as well as her beloved cousin, Maxine Deford.
Visitation will be held 9:30am until the Funeral Service to begin at 10:00am Friday, August 19, 2022, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Chaplain Jim Dietz officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Walter.
Pallbearers will be Justin Beck, Peyton Blackledge, Robby Ballard, Rusty Smith, Covington Thomson, Hudson Beck, and Shepard Beck.
We are thankful to all of those who loved and cared for Eloise, with special gratitude to Mary Selig, who cared for her during the final year of her life.
