Obituary

Elsie E. Wechter (nee Reichert), age 102, of Pensacola, FL, passed from this life into eternal life on August 11, 2023. She was born on January 25, 1921, in Maywood Village, IL to the late Emanuel and Dorothy Koate Reichert. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Wechter; her siblings, Lucille, Harold, Elmer, and Esther.

Elsie was a devoted wife to her late husband, Arthur, and a loving mother to her son, Ronald. She was known for her exceptional cooking skills and delighted her family with her culinary creations, especially those inspired by her German heritage. She was enthusiastic about health and fitness, taking daily walks and staying active at the gym, as well as cycling, doing yoga, and swimming. She also valued keeping her mind active and kept up with the latest in health news, did puzzles, and played weekly bingo, among other pursuits. She also enjoyed tending to her yard and home to create a warm and inviting space. Above all, Elsie was a woman of faith who put her trust in God's love and guidance throughout her life.

As a Navy wife, Elsie exemplified hard work and dedication. She supported her husband throughout his military career, demonstrating unwavering strength and resilience. Elsie took great pride in her son and shared his curiosity about the world. She was an endless source of support and encouragement in his life.

Elsie is survived by her loving son, Ronald Wechter (Cynthia); her brother, Wilbert Reichert; and nieces and nephews. Elsie will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola, FL. The committal service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans (dav.org) or Fisher House Foundation (fisherhouse.org).

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the compassionate caregivers who helped Elsie in recent years. Each person's unique qualities — to include kindness, gentleness, efficiency, and fun — enriched Elsie's life in immeasurable ways. The family will be forever grateful.
