Emily Joyce Butler, 81, of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, November 14, 2014. Born in Tylertown, MS the only child of Horace H. and Minnie Ginn Butler. Columbia, MS was her home until she entered college. She graduated from Columbia High School and the University of Southern Mississippi where she obtained a degree in library science. Her career as a public school librarian began in Valparaiso, FL where she lived for several years. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Pensacola. Her involvement in the life of First Baptist made her retirement years a period of happiness and fulfillment. She was a member of a Lady's Sunday School Class, the Singing Seniors, Women's Ministries, and the travel group of the church. Her greatest pleasure came from signing in the Sanctuary choir. She was faithful in her attendance at choir practice and in the choir on Sunday until her health declined. Not being able to be involved in the music ministry of her church was a sorrow for Joyce. Joyce enjoyed bridge and playing in three different groups. She was a founding member of a bridge group composed of teachers at Escambia High School. Some 40 years later that group still functions and meets regularly. She enjoyed china painting, was a member of Pine Glades Garden, Escambia Retired Educators Association, and two education societies, Alpha Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi. She served as an officer in most of these organizations. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, both sets of grandparents, and numerous cousins. She is survived by several cousins and her many friends.
