Obituary

Emma Draeger, 76, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Emma was born in Catania, Italy to Alfio Felice Cali and Giovanna D'Urso. Emma was the third of three children. She was a homemaker most of her life, devoting her time to her home and family. She met her husband Larry when he was stationed in Sigonella, Sicily through her daughter Anita's bowling. They had been married 22 years, and resided in Pensacola after Larry's retirement from the Navy. She was a simple lady who enjoyed tending to her flowers (especially her Plumerias), taking care of her family and accompanying Larry to his bowling, wherever that may have been in the country-though she, herself, had only bowled one game in her life and scored 38. Because of Larry's bowling, she had visited 49 states-only lacking Alaska, which she said was too cold. She made many friends in various bowling establishments and looked forward to seeing each of them locally and around the country. She enjoyed talking daily to her many Italian friends and getting together with them as often as possible. She looked forward each month to the Italian Ladies Lunch and keeping up with all their families. She cherished her dear friends Lucia Hehr, Nancy Lockwood and Lina Frappanpina, but shared her warmth with many others as well. She looked forward to attending Mass at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel and was religious in praying a Rosary daily, reading her Bible and attending to her Catholic faith. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Angela and brother, Giuseppe and first husband Nunzio. She is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Anita and her husband Randall; granddaughter, Emanuela Puglisi and great-grandson, Malakai Vick. Other survivors include numerous members of Larry's extended family, especially daughters, Christine, Jodi, Celeste, Belinda and Laurie; stepson, Jeff; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved and treated like her own. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6pm Monday, September 8, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola with a prayer service held at 5:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, 19 N. Palafox St. at 10:00am Tuesday, September 9, 2014 with Fr. Joseph Callipare celebrant. Burial will follow at 11:45am at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Emma Draeger to the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel Stained Glass Window Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 12423, Pensacola, FL 32591-2423. Special thanks are given to the nurses in the CCU of West Florida Hospital including Kristen, Janet, Melody, Denise and Christy and the many friends who visited Emma in the hospital.
