Pensacola News Journal Aug. 11, 2015

Reconizing the 70 th anniversary of the end of WWII on Aug. 14, the News Journal asked readers to submit memories of the V-J Day such as where they were, what they were doing and what their reactions were when they found out Japan surrendered and the war was over.

"When the A-bomb was dropped, I was in El Paso, Texas, on Biggs Army Airfield with several other men training for overseas duty on a modified B-29 A/C."

"We were scheduled to go to Tinian Island on Aug. 14, 1945. After the first A-bomb was dropped, we were delayed and ultimately canceled from overseas duty."

"Also in El Paso was Fort Bliss with many nice ladies who were granted leave to town as we were, but we had to fly at 0500 the next day! The bomb had been dropped but as usual, fly one day and off two days. This was our last day off, so fly the next day!"
