Emory Anthony Castro, Sr. 78, of Pensacola passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009. Mr. Castro was born in Pensacola, FL on July 1, 1930 to Ernest A. and Gladys Castro. He served his country in the US Navy for 7 1/2 years, in which he traveled all over the world crossing the Equator twice. After serving with the Navy, Mr. Castro joined the Pensacola Police Department, and retired in 1987 with 32 1/2 years of service. A good part of his career he ran the radar in which the Pensacola News Journal described him as a legend in his own time . For the past 15 years, he served as a Golf Marshall at Osceola Golf Course, where he enjoyed playing several times a week. He was a member of the St. Stephen Catholic Parish, where he was an Usher for many years. Emory was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Gladys Castro; sisters, Isabell and Lucille; brothers, Arnold, Alvin and Joe. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years Rose; two sons, E. Anthony, Jr. and Mark; three granddaughters, Jamie Castro, Nicole Castro and Brianna Castro; brother, Gerald Castro, Sr.; two sisters, Mary Hellriegel (John) of San Diego, CA and Elaine Tarkowski; brother-in-laws, John Ferraro, Sr. (Dixie), Matthew Ferraro (Gloria) and John Hellriegel; numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be prayed at 4:30pm on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with visitation continuing until 7:00pm at the chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, May 29, 2009 at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Hector R. G. Perez, S.T.D. celebrant. Burial will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery. For those who would like to honor Emorys life, the family request that memorials be made to St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, 900 West Garden Street, Pensacola, FL 32501. Active Pallbearers will be the Pensacola Police Department Honor Guard Unit. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Fields, John Ferraro, Sr., Gerald Castro, Jr. and Joe Reyes.
