Eric Georg Haertel, 65, of Pensacola, FL passed away, Friday, July 15, 2022.

Eric was born in St. Petersburg, FL. He graduated from the University of South Florida. After graduation he moved on to a long military career, serving in Panama, Iceland and several other installations state side and overseas. Retired in 2005 from active service and continued in civil service for 12 more years.

Throughout his life his passion was Civil Air Patrol guiding young men and women through the cadet program. He also enjoyed working with senior members where he was able to indulge in his love of flying.

After retiring to Pensacola, Eric was able to enjoy the family and grandchildren who were lights in his life. He kept busy loving his dogs and the wildlife in the pond behind his home. His greatest joy was helping others.

Eric is preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Erika Helmstadter Haertel; father, Richard Alois Haertel and stepmother, Jeanne Knowlton Haertel.

He is survived by his wife, Francine Haertel; daughters, Jennifer Minor and Christina Howard (Matt) children - John, Lauren and Lacey; son, David Haertel (Emily) children- Lillian, Claire and Jacob; sister, René Haertel-Eva (Eugene) and Eric's beloved dogs, Moni and Bali.

Funeral cortege will depart Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 2:00pm for a graveside service to begin at 2:30pm, Monday, August 1, 2022, at Barrancas National Cemetery.
