Ernest C. Conner, Jr., 74, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
Born on June 14, 1951, in Eufaula, AL, Ernie was the son of Rebecca and Ernest C. Conner, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death, along with his beloved sister, Amy.
Ernie graduated from Auburn University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction and later earned his master’s degree from Troy State University. He dedicated much of his professional life to Gulf Power, where he worked from 1982 until his retirement in 2010, overseeing corporate real estate operations with diligence and integrity.
Retirement marked the beginning of one of Ernie’s greatest adventures. An avid cyclist, he sometimes rode more than 100 miles in a single day and logged thousands of miles each year. In 2025, he completed a remarkable ten-year journey to ride every mile of the historic Southern Tier bicycle route, stretching from San Diego, CA, to St. Augustine, FL, a testament to his perseverance and determination.
A devoted Auburn Tigers fan, Ernie rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team in football, basketball, and baseball, whether from the stands or in front of the television.
Ernie was deeply involved in the newly established Global Methodist Church of Pensacola, where he faithfully led efforts to secure a permanent building and home for the congregation. His commitment to his faith community reflected his servant’s heart and steady leadership.
Above all, Ernie loved his family and friends dearly. He was known for his quick wit, his famously terrible jokes, and his ever-present kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and quiet strength.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Renee Davis Conner; his sons, Jeremy Conner (Alexis) and Ben Conner; his cherished grandchildren, Cecile, Camden, and Benji; his sister, Becky Estes (Rusty); and his brother, Tom Conner (Tina).
Visitation will be held at 10:00am until a Celebration of Life Service begins at 11:00am Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32504, with Rev. Bobby Ellisor of the Global Methodist Church of Pensacola officiating.
The family graciously accepts gifts of flowers, plants, or donations in Ernie’s name made to organizations that help others. They would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Vitas Hospice and to those who have offered prayers and well wishes over the last few months.
