Obituary

Ethel Louise Zimmerman, 84, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010. She was born on September 27, 1925 in Century, Florida to Darby and Ela (Mayo) Thompson. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Pensacola and she became a life long resident. She was a life time member of Richards Memorial Methodist Church and a graduate of Pensacola High School. She was employed by Gayfers Department Store for over 34 years where she served as manager of the Housewares Department at Town and Country Plaza and both Housewares and Petites at Cordova Mall. She loved her job and the wonderful people she met and worked with. She is best remembered for the loving care and kindness she showed to family and friends. She was a strong independent woman who never hesitated to care for her parents, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles through many illnesses and difficult times. Everyone loved her and loved to be with her. She was always ready to travel and visited many countries around the world. Her favorite trips, however, were always the ones to Las Vegas or Biloxi with her close friends from Gayfers. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo, brothers Farrell and Kenneth and sisters Marguerite and Hazel. She is survived by her three children, Leo (Pat), Ronnie (Anna Mary) and Marsha (Kenny Nielsen), eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Sable House. They were so kind and caring to our Mother and made her final years full of joy and happiness. Visitation and services will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the funeral service begins at 10:00 am, Reverend Ed Norris officiating. Internment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pall Bearers are Chris Zimmerman, David Zimmerman, Joey Nielsen, Paul Nielsen, Ken Thompson and Eric Ritter.
