Etheldreda Watson Grimes Dreda', 76, of Huntsville, formerly of Pensacola, FL passed away Wednesday. Dreda was born in Pensacola, FL to the late James Brent Watson and Mary Eliot (Hanway) Watson. She was a 1955 graduate of Pensacola Catholic High School and attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA. On November 24, 1956, she married her adoring husband, Ensign Laurence Hill Grimes, Jr., a pilot in the U.S. Navy. Dreda fulfilled the demanding responsibilities of being the model navy wife until Larry's retirement 1983 as a Captain, U.S. Navy. Dreda accumulated over 1000 hours volunteering with Navy Relief Organization and the U.S.S. Midway CV41 Wives' Association. This dedication and service were recognized and appreciated in 1976 when she was voted Midway Wife of the Year' by over 6000men on the U.S.S. Midway. She was a member of the Pensacola chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, and a lifetime member of the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Pensacola, where she and Larry renewed their 2006 vows in commemoration of their golden anniversary. Whether Dreda was entertaining friends and family, arranging flowers for weddings and parties, knitting stockings for nieces and nephews, playing bridge, or hanging ceiling fans and building shelves, she was happiest when she was doing something for someone else. Survivors include husband of 57 years, Larry; daughter, Catherine Grace Grimes Cole of Birmingham, AL; grandsons, Alex and Zac Cole of Birmingham; brothers, J. Brent Watson, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Pensacola, FL and John Hanway Watson and wife, Jane, of Brownsville, TN; sister, Catherine Brent Watson Hensarling and husband, Don, of Land of Lakes, FL; two nephews, nine nieces, four great nephews and seven great nieces. Memorial Mass will be held 10:00am Saturday, August 24, 2013 at The Basilica of St. Michael the Arch Angel with Fr. Joe Callipare celebrant. Private Family Committal will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, PO Box 12423, Pensacola, FL 32591.
