Eugenia Maher Cohen passed away on April 9, 2015. Born in Pensacola on June 8, 1924 she was one of five children born to Eugenia Gonzalez Maher and Leo Basil Maher. She enjoyed telling of her heritage as a direct descendent of Don Manuel Gonzalez who was an early Spanish pioneer that helped settle Pensacola. She is pre-deceased by her brothers Leo B. Maher, John C. Maher and her sister Marie Maher Collins and her sons Kenneth M. Cohen and David M. Cohen. Eugenia graduated in the first graduating class of Pensacola Catholic High in 1942. She was employed at Baptist Hospital as a Health Unit Coordinator. She also enjoyed volunteer work with The Haven of Our Lady of Peace and as a member of the Altar Society at St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was a loving and devoted mother of nine children. Her surviving children are Sister Priscilla Cohen O.S.B, Frances Noa (Vincent), Cynthia Jernigan (Reggie), Wayne M. Cohen, Stephen M. Cohen, Lynn Reed (Terry) and Debbie Hendricks (Steve). She was a cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She has a dear sister Virginia Maher Cafaro of Union City, New Jersey. Visitation will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church on Tuesday April 14th at 1:00 P.M. followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family wishes to express our sincerest thanks to the staff of The Haven of Our Lady of Peace for the special and loving care given to our mother. Eugenia was a most beautiful and loving person and a friend to all. She was the heart and soul of our family and will be deeply missed and remembered always. She may have been small in stature but was a giant of a woman, mother and friend.
