IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugenio "Geno"
Santo Fernandez
August 15, 1931 – January 12, 2018
Eugenio "Geno" Santo Fernandez, 86, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 12, 2018.
Geno was born on May 22, 1931 in Santiago, Cuba where he worked as a Cartographer. In Guantánamo he met, fell in love with, and married, Sonia Maria Fernandez in 1958. Due to the political upheaval in Cuba, Geno, his wife, and young daughter immigrated to the United States and settled in Pensacola. Geno found work at Monsanto and worked there until his retirement. Upon his retirement Geno's devotion to the United States motivated him to volunteer at the Sheriff's Department for over 20 years. Throughout his life, Geno had a passion for the arts. He enjoyed music, traveling, gardening, and was an accomplished artist. Foremost, Geno loved spending time with his family, including his many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Elisa F. Austin.
Geno is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sonia M. Fernandez; his daughter, Maria Fernandez-Thom; three brothers, Jose, Fermin, and German Fernandez; as well as a sister, Aminta Borgella.
Graveside Service will be held 9:00am Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Holy Cross Cemetery (Mausoleum) with Fr. James Valenzuela officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Research or to Cancer Research.
The family wants to extend special thanks to Emerald Coast Hospice (especially, Brittinie and Josie), as well as friends and family that have given so much love, care and support to Geno.
