Fay Dupree Hicks, 94, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, with her loving family by her side.
Fay was born in Charleston, SC on February 23, 1932, by Thomas and Effie Hood Dupree. After graduating from High School in Macedonia, SC, Fay worked at the Charleston Navy Yard for 2 years.
As a graduate of Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University) in 1957, her teaching career began with 2 years at First Baptist School in Charleston. She then came to Pensacola in 1959, teaching at Pensacola Christian School for 1 year and Ferry Pass Elementary School for 17 years. Fay then taught in Jackson, TN and Marshall, TX for 3 years each. She came back to Pensacola and taught at Bratt Elementary for 17 years. After 43 years of teaching, Fay retired in 2002, at the age of 70.
Fay served the Lord working with youth at 8th Avenue Baptist Church and First Christian Church, both in Pensacola, FL. She continued serving in Southern Methodist Churches with her pastor husband, John B. Hicks. She was also active in Women's Missionary Society in the Southern Methodist Church.
Fay enjoyed gardening, reading, and volunteering with the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP). She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Fay is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John B. Hicks Jr.; brothers, James C. (Sarah) Dupree, Emmett Carroll (Rachel) Dupree and niece, Elizabeth C. Johnson.
She is survived by her 2 special stepsons, John Boyd (Tammy) Hicks III and Kenneth Hicks of Tifton, GA; siblings, Thomas Legrande (Wanda) Dupree of Lafayette, GA, Denise (Michael) Dukes of Pensacola. FL; 4 step grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32504.
A Graveside Service will begin at 10:00 am on Wednesday March 11, 2026, at New Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, 7169 Salem Road, New Zion, SC 29111.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southern Methodist Missions, 541 Broughton St., Orangeburg, SC 29115.
