IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Faye Scholz
Evans
October 11, 1923 – February 17, 2020
Faye Scholz Evans, 96, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, February 17, 2020.
Faye was born on October 11, 1923 in Pensacola, FL to loving parents who always encouraged her to have faith in God and to pursue her dreams of education and a career. Faye moved from Pensacola with her family to Port St. Joe in 1938 where her father helped build the St. Joe papermill. She excelled in school and had the opportunity to ride a float in Florida's Centennial parade celebrating the signing of Florida's Constitution. This may have been her first exposure to state government, but it sparked a life-long love of the law. Her father passed away shortly after causing her mother and siblings to move to northern Okaloosa County near extended family and friends. Faye completed high school with honors where several of her teachers saw potential in this student. One of her teachers assisted Faye in finding a teacher she could rent a room from in Pensacola where she worked two and three jobs to pay for room and board while attending stenographer school where she learned shorthand and received a certificate of excellence. Faye then began to seek full-time employment with court reporters which had employed her part-time. She had impressed so many with not only her eagerness to work but also the quality of work she produced. One of her most notable jobs was taking depositions for the late Governor Ruben O'Donnell Askew for his Pensacola law firm. Faye started her own freelance reporting service which quickly grew in demand due to the quality of accuracy and timeliness of work.
Faye enjoyed traveling throughout the world after her retirement as an Escambia County Court Reporter in 1988. Her initial travels were in Mexico and western US with her second husband, Gray Evans, a Southern Baptist minister in San Diego. After his passing in 1996, Faye went on numerous cruises and tours through Europe where she sought out historic cathedrals and enjoyed much of the great European art in museums. She always had a desire to become more knowledgeable about art and cultural sites.
Faye is preceded in death by her three husbands, Edward P. Scholz, Jr., Pastor Gray Evans, and George Shell; her brothers, Walter Nell and Richard Kilpatrick.
Faye Scholz Evans is survived by her daughter, Angela L. Scholz of Pensacola; sons, Edward Paul Scholz, III (Barbara), Steven Russell Scholz (Diane), and Scotts Ferry, of Florida; grandchildren, Edward P. Scholz, IV (Georgann), Max S. Scholz (Sharee); great-grandchildren, Britian Scholz, Lacie Scholz, Logan Scholz and Morgan Scholz; sister, Dolly Meadors of Nashville, Tennessee; step-grandchildren, Doni Morris (Dee Dee), Andy Morris (Becky), and Matthew Morris; step-great-grandchildren, Andrew T.
