IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Felecia A.
Jernigan
January 21, 1932 – April 25, 2020
Felecia A. Jernigan, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 25, 2020.
Felecia was born in Manhattan, NY on January 21, 1932. She married Partha E. Jernigan on February 28, 1952 and moved to Brentwood Long Island, NY. She worked as a receptionist at a car dealership then later for the Township of Islip, NY. She moved with Partha to Pensacola, FL in 1969 after his mother passed. She was a devout Catholic and was involved in the Church for many years as a Eucharistic Minister and other facets of the church. The proudest moments that she had was the involvement with being a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, where she held many offices.
She had a long life of volunteerism starting with the Democratic Party of Long Island campaigning for many local politicians that went on to larger rolls in the state. Her family got to stuff many envelopes and walk in many parades. She worked with and for the Home Extension Division for homemakers. She was a cub scout leader for a short time but moved on to the 4H that better represented her skills of gardening, cooking, sewing and other home-based craft type activities. She was the class mom for every one of her children, never missed a bake sale and played an active roll in all the schools her children attended. She volunteered for many years at Catholic High Schools bookstore and worked every sporting event in the concession stand. She also headed up bingo for Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Brownsville to raise money the church.
She was an excellent cook, baker, and seamstress. She decorated some of the most beautiful cakes for almost anyone that asked and many that did not. People would rave about her lasagna. That was the dish of choice when going to family events. The clothes and costumes that she made were unbelievable. She was an incredibly talented and creative woman. If you glanced at her from afar, she was a hard charger and quite demanding, but had a huge heart. There were times that she would be telling you why you didn't need something while making that very thing at the same time. We all thought she could take over the world.
She played an active roll in raising her children and helping to raise the grandchildren when she could. No one could ever say that if they asked anything of her, they didn't receive it in whatever capacity she could do or give. Well, this is in no way a complete picture of our Mom and doesn't quite capture her spirt, but this certainly captures a bit of it. If you knew her you will miss her, if you did or didn't appreciate her, then we are sad for you.
Felecia is preceded in death by her husband, Partha Jernigan of 54 years; her parents, James Tuohey and Stella Precht; her brother, James (Sonny) and sister, Margaret (Kiki).
Felecia is survived by her children, Jimmy, Joey and Jeri Lynn; her grandchildren, Renee', Lori, Jake, Shannon, Ashley, Austin, Cameron, Kirsten and Bryce, and also her great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Rachel, Haleigh, Alyssa, David and Michael.
