Fr. Douglas Carl Halvorsen, 76, resident of Gulf Breeze, FL passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Douglas was born in Lexington, KY, and lived most of his life in New Jersey. He was ordained an Episcopal Priest in the Diocese of New Jersey. He was CEO of The Evergreens, a continuing care retirement community located in Moorestown, NJ. Following his retirement, he served as interim rector at Church of the Advent, Cape May, NJ, and St. Simeon's by the Sea, Wildwood, NJ.

He graduated from Asbury College, (1970), from Princeton Theological Seminary (1976), Rutgers University (1976) and General Seminary (1983.) He also achieved and maintained numerous academic and work-related certifications and citations.

Throughout his life he was an avid motorcyclist, hunter and marksman and music lover. He was a life member of the NRA. He was active in and contributed to every community he resided in. He was a member of the Rotary, the Elks, Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Middlesex County, NJ, United Way Middlesex, the Union League of Philadelphia, the Naval War College, the Navy League, Santa Rosa Council, the Pensacola Opera Board and the Pensacola Orchestra Advisory Board. He was an active member of Christ Church, Pensacola, and The Brotherhood of Saint Andrew. His was a happy, well-lived life which included many friends and colleagues.

He is preceded in death by Katherine Marie Halvorsen, infant daughter.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Cheryl Halvorsen; daughter, Jessica Doughty; son-in-law, Jeremy Doughty; daughter, Elizabeth Halvorsen; son-in-law, Matt Bliffert; grandson, Liam Doughty; and his princess granddaughter, Ella Doughty.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00am Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Christ Episcopal Church, 18 W. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501, with Dr. Michael Hoffman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Endowment Trust of Christ Church.
