Mrs. Slayton was born in Decatur, AL on September 18, 1925 to Ruby (Sanderson) and James E. Johnson. She graduated for Riverside High School in Decatur, where she married her high school sweetheart, Earl L. Slayton on September 23, 1944. Mrs. Slayton was a member of the East Hill Baptist Church, where she was actively involved for 50 years. She never said no in reaching out for the church for people in need. She loved artwork and ceramics, which she loved to give away, other hobbies included playing bridge and bowling.

Mrs. Slayton was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and G. W. Sellers; brothers and sister-in-laws, Sonny and Helen Johnson and Eddie and Pearl Johnson.

Survivors include her loving husband of 72 years, Earl L. Slayton; sons, Don Slayton and Jeff Slayton (Michelle); 4 grandchildren, Jason, Donny, Rob and Julie; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sister June Taylor (Marvin); numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be 10:00am until the Funeral Service at 11:00am Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Entombment will be at Bayview Memorial Park.

Active Pallbearers will be Donny Slayton, Robert Slayton, Adam Slayton, Chris Crooke, Patrick Pahalek and Tim Eagan.
