Frank James Filek, 66, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009, in his home in Gulf Breeze, FL. After a long battle with cancer, he went peacefully in his sleep, with family members holding his hands. Born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1943, Frank moved to Pensacola in 1958. He graduated from Escambia High School with the class of 62 and attended both Pensacola Junior College and Clemson University on track scholarships. Frank spent several years proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. Upon returning to the States he finished his Bachelors Degree at the University of West Florida and earned his Masters Degree from The Florida State University. He has done more things in his life in the way of jobs and hobbies than can be listed and his favorite occupation and pastime was spending time with, and taking care of, his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Carol, his daughter and son-in-law Christy and DeWayne Howe, and his son, Jack. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel followed by the service at 10:30 a.m. with Rev Dan Elkins officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Culberson, Larry Franklin, Greg Landry, Carl McKinley, Gene Miller, Tom Moody, Greg Olusczak, and Tom Spurlin.
