Frank A. Samples, 90, of Pensacola passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in his home with his beloved wife of 67 years and his outstanding caregivers Darlene Adams and Doug Howell by his side. Frank was born February 15, 1922 in Bradwell, KY. He lived in Toledo, OH from 1945 until 1975 when he and Marjean moved to Pensacola, FL. Frank served in World War II and while stationed in Pensacola met Frances Marjean Thomas, they married in 1944 at First Presbyterian Church. They moved to Toledo and Frank attended University of Toledo for two years and then three years of trade school. While in Toledo he was the athletic director at Faugreen Presbyterian Church and coached numerous athletic teams for over 30 years. Frank also served as chairman of the State of Ohio Council of Presbyterian Members. When returning to Pensacola in 1975, Frank and Marjean joined First Presbyterian Church where Frank became an ordained elder in June 1999, serving for four years. He remained a very active member singing in the choir and served on the Men's Breakfast Bible Group, the Worship committee, Service Committee and was Lead Usher for over 20 years. Frank was also active in the community serving as president of the Scenic Hill Men's Golf Club and on the Board of Directors for the Pensacola Sports Association. He is survived by two brothers, William Marvia of Cocoa, FL and Delbert Ray (Donna) of Toledo, OH. Frank and Marjean had no children of their own but have served as adoptive grandparents to Parker and Spencer Barrilball. Watching Parker and Spencer play sports and grow into the fine young adults they are today, has given Frank and Marjean great joy. A Graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Jay City Cemetery in Jay. The family will then receive friends from 1-2pm with a Memorial service beginning at 2:00pm, Friday, September 21, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Pensacola with Dr. Randy Jackson and Rev. Frank Beall officiating. Marjean would like to thank all of their faithful friends and church members who have prayed for, and been with them these last 4 years with visits, food, love and prayer.
