IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank Eugene
Slusser
June 2, 1936 – May 6, 2023
Frank Slusser made his home in heaven on May 6, 2023, at the age of 86.
Frank was born in Nescopeck, PA in 1936 to Joe and Lura Slusser. After graduating from Nescopeck High School in 1954, he moved south, eventually landing in Tallahassee at Florida State University. There he met Sissy and enjoyed a fulfilling baseball career—even pitching the first "no-hitter" in FSU's history. He graduated in 1958 and married Sissy in 1959. Frank spent a few years pursuing semi-pro baseball, playing for teams in Nebraska and Canada. Eventually they returned and settled in Pensacola in 1961.
He spent 36 years in the Escambia County School District where he taught driver's education and coached baseball at Pensacola High School. He also coached baseball at Pensacola Junior College. During his long career, Coach Slusser, as he was affectionately known, touched many lives.
Frank was a faithful member of Gadsden Street United Methodist Church and later Hillcrest Baptist Church.
After retiring in 1996, he stayed active and enjoyed racing homing pigeons, bowling, and rowing. Most of all, he adored time spent with good friends and his family—his wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe, and Lura Slusser.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eleanore "Sissy" Slusser; brother, Robert Slusser; daughter, Stacy Jacobi (Bill); son, Scott (Beth); grandchildren, Ryan, Josh (Ashley), Lindsey, Shariston; and great grandchildren, Aubrey, Barrett, Kayleigh, and Noah.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 10–11am at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Pensacola, FL. Following, a Celebration of Life will be held at 11am at the same location.
