Obituary

Fred H. Parker, 95, of Pensacola passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013. He was born on July 9, 1918 in Meridian, MS. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1936 and from Mississippi State in 1941. In World War II, Captain Parker was the Group Navigator for the 42nd Bomb Group in the Southwest Pacific. Most of his combat missions were over the Japanese held oil fields in Bofrneo. When the two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan, his unit was packing for the move north to invade Japan. After retiring from the military he taught high school math in El Paso and Pensacola. Later he worked in the oil fields drawing graphs of the important things happening in the well at various depths. Fred's retirement years were spent with his family and his love of playing Bridge at the Bayview Community Center. He is survived by a son, Michael (Debbie) and a daughter, Robin (David), both of Pensacola; his grandaughters, Meghan (Will), Whitney (JR), Jessica (Lucas), Robin and Holly; great grandchildren, Parker, Emerson, Lilla, Haven, Dagen and Vivienne. Fred's body will be cremated and given to the sea to join his beloved brother, Ensign Jackson Welch Parker, who was killed in a naval battle in the Guadalcanal campaign of 1942. Jack graduated from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD four months prior to his death. Friends will be received at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel beginning at 4:30pm Wednesday, October 9, 2013 with a Memorial service held at 5:30pm.
