Fred Jordan Weathers, 84, died Sunday night February 10, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Dothan, AL on September 9, 1928, and moved to Pensacola, FL at an early age and lived here most of his life. After graduating from Pensacola High School he entered the Army. He graduated from UWF in 1969 with a degree in Computer Science. Fred was the first draftsman to be hired by the new Chemstrand plant. After retiring from Monsanto, he worked at his tropical plant nursery. He was one of the founders of the Bromeliad Society of Northwest Florida. Besides his love of gardening, Fred enjoyed many hobbies: photography, writing, woodworking. He designed and built much of the furniture in his home and his daughter's. Fred is survived by Suzanne Weathers, his wife of 58 years; his daughter, Lana Weathers; son Craig Weathers (fiancée Melissa Sims); aunt, Janette Schiller; sisters-in-law, Jerry (David) Pittman, Marilyn (Adrian) Craig all of Pensacola, FL, Vicky (Tim) Grantham of Evergreen, AL and Marie Weathers of Tampa, FL; brothers-in-law, Don (Dot) Griffith of Pensacola, FL, Larry (Diane) Griffith of Tallahassee, FL and Ed Yates of Sandy, Utah; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held 1:00pm Thursday, February 14, 2013 at St. Mark United Methodist Church with the Funeral services beginning at 2:00pm. Rev. Nancy Watson will officiate. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
