Obituary

Frederick "Scott" Griffith, 67, of Pensacola, FL passed away from cancer on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Scott was born on September 14, 1956, in Springfield, OH to Roanna Marie (Wheldon) and Frederick Lamar Griffith. He graduated from Greenon High School in1974 and the Naval Academy in 1979. He became a Naval Helicopter Pilot in 1981 upon the completion of Flight School. He served at NAS Jacksonville, VC-18 in Roosevelt Road Puerto Rico, HC-16 and NADEP at NAS Pensacola, HC-1 at North Island San Diego where he took an early retirement. He moved to Pensacola and continued in the Aviation Field working 20 years in Mobile at VT Aerospace later known as ST Engineering in Pensacola.

He met and married the love of his life, Mary Kate Weston in 1984 in Jacksonville, FL.

Scott's hobbies included VW's "air cooled ONLY", car repair, woodworking and supporting his children and grandchildren's activities. An Eagle Scout himself, Scott volunteered with the Boy Scouts Troop 403 and Troop 415. While mostly a behind-the-scenes guy, he did anything needed for his children to succeed such as getting the best car deal, setting up for swim meets or attending grandchildren's school or sports events.

Scott's greatest joy and accomplishment were his five children and most of his activities and interest were related to their interest and passions. His grandkids say he's funny, can fix anything, and is their go-to for math homework help.

While he believed strongly in life of service, Scott will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of family and his tremendous work ethic.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Roanna Griffith, and brother-in-law, Mark Roberts.

Scott is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Kate Griffith; son, Dan Griffith (Marti); daughter, Megan Griffith (Billy Morris); son, Frederick "Shawn" Griffith; daughter, Elizabeth Griffith; son, Scott Griffith; grandchildren, Jack, Delaney, Austin, Tianna, Kellen, Priscilla, Phoebe, and Blake; sister, Toni Roberts; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 10:30am until the Funeral Service beginning at 11:30am Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ken Griffin officiating. A burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
