Obituary

Furnie Ormond (Dick) Dickerson of Pensacola passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013. He was born in Oxford, NC on April 11, 1927 to Furnie and Laurie Dickerson. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and is a Veteran of WWII. Dick attended Wake Forest and graduated from Auburn University where he received his degree in Chemical Engineering. In 1950 he married Katherine Baugh (Kit) Henderson from Pensacola. After working for Monsanto in Columbia, TN for several years, he moved his family to Pensacola in 1959 where he opened Building Supply Center with his father-in-law, Burney Henderson, and his brother-in-law, Will Merrill, Jr. Dick was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he was active in various ministries of the Church including The Vestry, Junior and Senior Warden and the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club where he was past president and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was also very involved in the community. He was active with the Fiesta of Five Flags, Rebellaires and the Order of Tristan and served on various boards including Coastal Bank and Trust and Episcopal Day School. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kit, the love of his life and two brothers, Carlton and Bryson. He is survived by his brother, Bob Dickerson (Ellen) from Lexington, NC.; his sisters, Dora Lee Adcock and Dot Watson and sister-in-law Anne Dickerson from Oxford, NC.; his children, Beth Yon (David) from Columbia, SC., Jim Dickerson, Jane Renfroe (Jake), William Dickerson (Jane Suzanne) and Kate Major (Hal); his fifteen grandchildren, Laura Dees (Robert), Jamie, Ashley and Andy Dickerson, Frances Shainwald (Ari), Arthur and Katherine Yon, William Renfroe and Mary Kate Northup (Graham), Elizabeth, Emily, Jane and Ella Major, Merrill and Mallory Dickerson; his five great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law Jane and Will Merrill and his many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving and devoted caregivers, Lenette and Vanessa Pritchett, Larunya Sanders and Connie Williams. And last but not least, his cat, Ginger. Our Daddy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother who is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church officiated by the Reverend Neal Goldsborough who will be accompanied by the Reverend Bob Graves. Honorary pallbearers will be David Yon, Jake Renfroe III, Harold Major, Willis Merrill III, Burney Merrill and Collier Merrill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142; Memphis, TN. 38148, or the American Cancer Society. WAR DAMN EAGLE!
