Gail LaBounty, 83, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Gail was born in Birmingham, AL in 1931 and moved to Pensacola in 1952. Shortly after arriving in Pensacola, she met Bobby LaBounty and married him in November of 1953. They were lovingly married for 61 years until his death in January of this year. Bob and Gail made their home in Cordova Park where they raised their two sons, Michael and Richard. In 1964, Gail began what became her cherished career, her daycare and pre-school, first at Trinity Presbyterian Church and later at St. Paul Catholic Church. During the 40+ years of her service to families in the care of their young children, she touched the lives of countless Pensacola citizens. She always treasured encountering her former students as they grew into adults as well as their proud parents. She remembered all of her former students and would always share a special story about each. The greatest accomplishment and joy of her life was her family by whom she is survived; her sons, Michael (Julie), Richard (Judy); her four beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Drew, Brook and Kate; her sister, Carolyn (Leon) Scoggins of Birmingham and her brother, Bill (Leslie) Ransom of Atlanta. Gail's favorite pastime was her time with family, avidly following the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Gail often spoke proudly of the success of her son, Michael, and his flourishing career as a CPA. For the last 32 years there has been no bigger fan of Catholic High School and its athletic programs than Gail and Bobby LaBounty. Their son, Richard, has been the head Baseball Coach since 1983 and Athletic Director since 1988. For the past 30+ years Bobby and Gail never missed a baseball game and other athletic events until their declining health prevented them from attending. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Harper Morris Memorial Chapel and a Celebration of Her Life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from Trinity Presbyterian Church with their former pastor, Frank Beall officiating. A reception will follow in the church parlor. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her dedicated caregivers; Vera, Georgia and Bette. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pensacola Catholic High School Baseball Program.
