At the age of 73, Gary passed peacefully on the morning of September 14, 2025, with his loving wife of 51 years by his side.

Gary worked in the Navy in Interior Communications. He worked at NADEP as an Aircraft Electrician and then he worked at ES&C Law until he retired in 2010. Gary led by example and with his heart. He loved his family more than anything; he made sure they knew it and felt it. He enjoyed spending time with his family, holiday get-togethers, and working on cars with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching a good car race. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Terry L. Welch; his two children daughter, Carmen Vanek (Brandon), son, Gary "JR" Wayne Welch, Jr. (Brianna Nelson); three grandchildren, Trevor Allen, Deserae Hughes (Thomas), Izzy Flores; five great grandchildren, Camden Hughes, Luke Hughes, Madilynn Hughes, Natalee Hughes, and Owen Hughes.

A Memorial Visitation will be 5:00pm -6:00pm Friday, September 26, 2025, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. The family request everyone to dress casual.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 5200 Bayou Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32503, in Gary's name.
