Gavin E. Thorsen was called home, Tuesday, April 16, 2013. He was born February 14, 1929, in Pensacola, FL to Viola and Louis S. Thorsen, Sr. Gavin attended local schools and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Florida State University, and his Doctorates from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a teacher and Administrator in Escambia County Schools for 35 years before retiring. He loved his family, fishing, sailing, camping, traveling and square dancing. He was a member of EEA, FEA, Phi Delta Kappa, Swinging Saints and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Gavin is preceded in passing by his parents and his brother Louis, Jr. He was the loving husband of Clara (Betty) Thorsen. He also leaves behind three children Gavin K. Thorsen (Heidi), Karen Thorsen and Kenneth Thorsen; 4 grandchildren Evan and Emily Thorsen, Zackary and Hannah Barnes; sisters Barbara Williamson (Willie), Agnes Ezell, Patricia Swan; brother, Neil Thorsen (Barbara) and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm until the Funeral Service at 2:00pm Saturday, April 20, 2013 in the Pleitz Chapel of the First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice at West Florida Hospital, 8383 N. Davis Hwy., Pensacola, FL 32514.
