Gene Bartholomew "Bubba" Bridges, was gently taken into the arms of Jesus on April 1, 2023, just a few weeks shy of his 65th birthday, after a heroic fight to overcome numerous health issues. Never one to complain or bemoan his situation, he will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart and sheer determination to keep holding on to life.

Bubba had a great love of cooking, even after he was no longer able to eat solid foods, he often treated family to wonderful meals he had prepared. He delighted in finding new recipes and sharing them with family.

Bubba was a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida where he loved fishing and being on his boat, especially with his wife Kathy, spending time at the beach, feeding the birds and squirrels, and watching Jeopardy! (especially when Alex Trebek hosted.) He enjoyed golfing with family and friends as well as attending FSU football games and following the Seminoles on TV.

He was born in Pensacola on April 16, 1958, to Gene and Theresa Bridges. He attended Pensacola State College (PJC) and transferred to FSU where he became a devoted fan. He worked at various retail stores during his career until retiring from Publix in 2011.

Bubba married Kathy Wargo Fly in 1998, and with that marriage, he became a father to Kathy's son William Fly. Bubba found great joy and pleasure in helping Kathy raise Will and watching him grow into a young man.

Bubba is survived by his loving and devoted wife Kathy, of 25 years; his stepson, William Fly (Erica); his father, Gene Bridges; siblings, Connie Dillard (Dwain), Chris Bridges (Letty), Karen Bridges, Kenneth Bridges (Cathy); father-in-law, Bill Wargo; brother-in-law, Brian Wargo (Deneen); He is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and many nieces and nephews who have been prayer warriors throughout his health journey.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023 until a Memorial Service to begin at 1:00 pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mike Mashburn, officiating.

Bubba will be greatly missed, but we find comfort knowing he is no longer in pain or suffering. We appreciate all the healthcare providers who cared for him so diligently, especially during this past year.

In lieu of flowers, we know that Bubba would ask that you take time to enjoy a wonderful meal with your family and to always find a reason to share laughter.
