Obituary

George Frederick Atwell, 91, native of Pensacola, FL passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013. George served his country in the Army/Air Force and was commissioned on January 14, 1943. He served in Kunson, Korea for 7 months and 5 days. Throughout his military duty he served in many battles and campaigns including, the Philippines, Northern Solomons, Bismark, Arch., Luzon, CG, New Guinea and Korea. He received many awards including, AF Res Medal, UN Service Medal, Korea Service Medal, Air Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Oak Leaf Clusters, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Victory Medal as well as Bronze Service Stars. After his discharge from the military, George attended and graduated from Auburn University, School of Pharmacy. In his career as a Pharmacist he worked mainly at Moulton's P&S and the Drug Shop on 12th Ave. George ultimately retired in January of 1992. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ravais Atwell. Survivors include his daughter, Susan A. Teal (James); son, Dr. Fred Atwell (Susan); 4 grandchildren, Tony Atwell (Dodi), Dr. Brian Atwell, Christy Teal and April Tompkins (Bob); as well as 7 great-grandchildren, Morgan Atwell, Zoe Atwell, Ethan Atwell, Marina Atwell, B.J. Tompkins, Christopher Tompkins and Piper Teal Inboden. Visitation will be held 1-2pm Friday, June 14, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with a Graveside Service to follow at Bayview Memorial Park at 2:15pm with Dr. Gordon Godfrey officiating.
