George Cleveland Brewer, 90, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026.

George was born in Cottage Hill, FL, on April 14, 1936, to Columbus Washington and Millie Lee Brewer. He was the youngest son in a family of nine children. George attended Cottage Hill School and graduated from J.M. Tate High School in 1954. After graduation, George began his 38-year career at Chemstrand Corporation (Monsanto) as a Mechanic in the Intermediates Division and was one of the first employees at this location. He also served on the Fire Brigade at the plant from 1984 until his retirement.

In November of 1956, George married his lifelong sweetheart, Cloy Faye McCurley, and was dedicated to her for 67 years until her death in 2024. Together, George and Faye raised three children, Mike, Sharon, and Kathy. He also took great joy in helping raise Faye’s three younger brothers, Richard, Dean, and Larry McCurley, who loved him as if he were their own father. George began playing the guitar at age 9 and shared his love of music with Faye and their children. George was often found in many different settings and occasions playing his guitar and harmonica with his friends, family, and other musicians. George very much enjoyed cooking and sharing meals at his home with family and friends. His home was always open and welcoming to everyone. At the age of 21, George gave his life to the Lord. He was passionate about sharing the gospel through music and testimony. In 1963, he and his family became lifelong members of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he devoted countless hours of service as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Softball Coach, and Musician. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He loved gardening and spending time outdoors. George was often heard whistling and laughing throughout the day. He strived to find the good in life, always in a joyous and cheerful mood. He was a devoted and loving grandfather to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. George was an example of love, faith, and commitment, and an inspiration to all who knew him.

George is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Faye; his parents, Columbus Washington and Millie Lee Gunter Brewer; two sisters, Emma Louise Lisco Mixon and Edna Leola Thompson Crow; six brothers, Robert Brewer, Roy Brewer, Albert Brewer, James Oliver Brewer, Edward Brewer, and Wilbert Brewer; and two granddaughters, Genevieve Brewer and Kathryn Dethlene Brewer.
