Rev. George A. Gilbert, Jr., age 94, of Pensacola, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 16, 2019, from Pensacola, FL. George was born in Providence Rhode Island to the late George and Charlotte Rice Gilbert, Sr. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Mark and Luke Gilbert.
George proudly served as Major in the United States Army Air Corp during World War Two and also during the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Pensacola, FL, he attended St. Christopher Episcopal Church in Pensacola, FL and previously served as Reverend at St. Michael and Grace Church in Rumford, RI. He truly loved to serve the Lord. George was extremely tech savvy, he had a love of technology, especially Alexia. He was a a member of the Shriners and participated in the Retired officers club, he always kept very active in his community and church. George truly loved spending time with his family and will be missed by many.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 69 years, Judith Gilbert, of Pensacola; a Daughter, Kathryn Cantrall, and her husband Charles, of Suisun City, CA; a son, Mark Gilbert, of San Rafael, CA; two grandchildren, Michele Cabeen, of Los Angeles, CA and Brian Zorrilla, and his wife Stephanie, of Marysville, CA; three great grandchildren, Brian, Jayden and Kaitlyn Zorrilla of Marysville, CA.
A graveside service to honor the life of Rev. George A. Gilbert, Jr. will be held at 10:30am on Friday, December 20, 2019, at Barrancas National Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church at 12:00pm, with Father Robert Dixon, officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel Friday at 9:45am to go in procession to the cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Azelea Trace in Pensacola for the love and care shown to George during his time there.
