Obituary

George A. Milner, a resident of Pensacola since 1984, died Saturday, July 18, 2020, at his residence. He is survived by his children, Kevin Milner, of Garland, Texas, Mrs. Karen (Steve) Haldeman, of Richardson Texas, and Kelly Milner (Tammy Wylie), of, Weatherford, Texas; Stepchildren include, Patti Snyder, of Dallas Texas, Bruce Bickley, Mrs. Beth (Robert) Reagan and Brad Bickley, of Atlanta, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Matthew Haldeman, Aaron, Madison and Michael Milner, Erin Bickley, Chip, Christopher and Chandler Reagan.

Mr. Milner was born in Dallas, Texas, April 22, 1932, to the late G.K. and Cornelia Milner. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Milner; siblings, Edith B. Tucker, Robert W. Milner, Virginia M. Berry, Louise Emery, Thelma Milner and Cecil J. Milner. Mr. Milner graduated from Grapevine High School in Texas, and sought a communications degree at Baylor University. His communications career included on- air positions at KCLW, Hamilton, Texas, and KGVL, Greenville, Texas. He also held on-air positions at KANG TV, Waco, Texas and WFAA TV, Dallas, Texas. Mr. Milner was promoted to various positions in his 14 years with WFAA TV, becoming Program/Operations Manager. When Belo Broadcasting bought KFDM TV in Beaumont, Texas, Mr. Milner was promoted to Vice President and General Manager there. He later managed WXI A TV in Atlanta, Georgia. He later became Midwest Sales Manager for Columbia Pictures Television in Chicago—and Southeastern Sales Manager for Viacom Television Enterprises in Atlanta, Georgia. Before moving from Atlanta to Pensacola, he and his (then) wife, Marea Jo Milner (deceased) formed their own consulting firm.

His volunteer endeavors over the years include bereavement/grief facilitating with Bereaved Partners group with Hospice Atlanta. In Pensacola, Mr. Milner was instrumental in establishing "Survivors of Suicide" support and Compassionate Friends local chapter. He served on the board of directors of Widowed Persons Service and trained volunteers. He co-founded and facilitated the Pensacola Community Loss Support Group for approximately 15 years.  In the community,  Mr. Milner served on the boards of Pensacola Museum of Art and WSRE TV Foundation.

He dearly loved his church, St- Christopher's Episcopal Church, and twice served on the vestry. He served many years as lay reader and chalice bearer. He helped start the Stephen Ministry outreach program and instructed and supervised volunteers for almost 9 years. He created and presented 34 "Words and Music" Chapel programs for the church.

Due to the present situation with the Covid-19 infection rate in the area, the family will hold a private memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. George A. Milner. This service will be streamed live on the St-Christopher's Episcopal Church's face book page for anyone who would like to observe. The service will be live streamed on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 10:50 AM, with Reverend Susan Sowers, officiating.  A traditional celebration of life service will be held for Mr. Milner for all friends and loved ones at a later date.
