George "Bubba" W. Phillips, III, 81, of Inverness, FL, died Friday, August 23, 2024, in Inverness, FL.
George was born on May 30, 1943, in Pensacola, FL, to George W. and Alyne Ernestine (Borras) Phillips. He served his country in the US Air Force during Vietnam and achieved the rank of Sergeant. After the service he achieved an associate's degree and went on to work as a Computer Programmer for Westinghouse. After retiring from Westinghouse, he initiated a second career as a certified outboard engine mechanic.
He always made time to get his friends and colleagues back on the water. George enjoyed fishing and would travel to Lake Okeechobee for an annual fishing trip. He had an amazing talent for building and repairing cast nets.
George is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Phillips.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Meriwyn Phillips, of Inverness, FL; daughter, Marci Phillips Hilton (Mark), of Brandon, FL; son, Andrew Phillips (Lynne), of Indian Harbor Beach, FL; a sister, Sheila Smith, of Pensacola, FL; two grandsons, Tyler Maxwell (Megan) and Noah Hilton; as well as one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Maxwell.
Join us in celebrating George's life at 1:00pm Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Committal will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
