Obituary

George M. Ricketson, III, MD, 84, of Pensacola, FL passed to his Lord and Savior, Saturday, November 20, 2021.

George was born to Edith Lewis and George M. Ricketson, Jr., MD on April 16, 1937, in Atlanta, GA. George graduated from North Fulton High School, class of 1955, following high school, George enlisted in the US Air Force from 1955 to 1959 spending most of his enlistment in Tripoli, Libya. Upon discharge from the Air Force George attended the University of Florida, completing his undergraduate degree in English. While at the University of Florida he met the love of his life, Peggy Bramble. They married in 1961 and George continued his education at UF medical school. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the US Navy, initially stationed in Bethesda, MD where he completed his internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He transferred to Portsmouth, VA for his four-year residency in general surgery. He spent the next four years stationed at the Naval Hospital on the Marine Base in Camp Lejeune, NC. While at Camp Lejeune, he competed on the national level with the US Naval Skeet Shooting Team. His final duty station was Pensacola, FL. George retired from the Navy in 1983 as Captain and went directly into private practice with his naval mate, David J. McMahon. They practiced together at Sacred Heart Hospital for over 20 years. Throughout his career George was an avid golfer, snow skier, fisherman, pilot, flight instructor, and Gator Fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George M. Ricketson, Jr., MD and Edith Lewis Ricketson; loving wife of 50 years, Peggy B. Ricketson.

He is survived by his beloved partner, Alma Mullarky; two sons, George M. Ricketson, IV (Kathy) and David W. Ricketson (Janice); five grandchildren, Griffin, Nolan, Maggie, Ashley, and Cole; as well as a great-granddaughter, Riley.

Visitation will be held 10:00am until a funeral service to begin at 11:00am Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Wesley Wachob officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park, with full Navy honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Pensacola, FL or to Sacred Heart Children's Hospital.

The family would like to thank all the physicians, nurses, and staff in the ER, ICU, and the PICU of Sacred Heart Hospital for their excellent care and support provided to George and his family.
