IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glen Nelle
Elmore
January 9, 1929 – May 3, 2016
Glen Nelle Elmore, 87, of Pensacola, FL passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016.
She was born January 9, 1929 in Wilmer, AL to James Elsworth and Stella Ryals Stringfellow. She was the baby of 3 sisters and 3 brothers and outlived them all. Her humble, rural beginnings shaped the simple, southern woman that she was. She met the love of her life, Johnny Eugene Elmore at Livingston University and they married August 23, 1952. Together they raised 4 children, Phil Elmore (Dana), Jeannie Sutton-Bailey (Jimmy), Jonny Elmore, whom she sadly lost in October of 1987, and Amber Northington-Brown (Greg). She taught school for many years in AL, but spent the greater part of her career as a procurement officer for the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, FL. Above all, she loved her Lord, His church, her family and many wonderful friends. She served faithfully in many facets of the church her entire life, teaching 100's of children in Sunday School, serving on committees, playing the piano, and singing with her family and in the choir. Anyone who knew her, loved her warmth and gentle spirit and will forever remember her beautiful smile and the light that it brought with it. She could pray like no other, with a child like humility, often bringing a chuckle from those who prayed with her. She was funny. She really knew how to love, root for the underdog, pinch a penny, stretch a dollar, and was always so kind to everyone. She had a gift of holding onto what others would call junk and make a delicious meal out of almost nothing. She loved gardening, listening to southern gospel music, and cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide with her family. She truly possessed the fruits of the spirit and she lived them.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gene, and honored his memory until her last breath.
Her heart of hearts belonged to her 3 grandchildren, Kyle (Courtney), Avery Michelle and Chad (Adrienne) and 2 great grandchildren, Walker and Ian; as well as many nieces and nephews who loved dearly. Her sweet animals already miss her terribly, as do we, but because of the hope that we have in Jesus, we will all see her again. You will always be our sunshine, our Mama and Maw maw.
