Obituary

Glenda House, 87, of Pensacola, FL passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

Glenda was born on February 23, 1936, in Akron, OH to Arthur and Ida Cross. Glenda grew up in Portsmouth, VA. She graduated from Churchland High School in 1954 and then pursued a career in real estate. She married her high school sweetheart in 1957. She remained in real estate until her husband completed college at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1961. For the next 21 years she was a Navy wife and was very active in the Officers' Wives Club. Starting in Pensacola and then to New Iberia, LA where her husband completed flight training and they welcomed their first child, Tom Jr. While in New Iberia, she met the Dugas family - who remained a very close and integral relationship throughout her life. They contributed to her great cooking skills and passing a good time.

For the next two decades, they were stationed in Norfolk, Key West, Quonset Point, Pensacola, San Diego and then ultimately laid roots in Pensacola in 1982.

In 1984, she pursued her passion and opened an antiques and collectibles business called This Ole House on S. Palafox. She operated the business until hurricane Ivan in 2004. Her life's motto was "It's not done till it's over done" and she lived it until the very end. She took great care in building community and caring deeply for everyone in it. From the handmade flamingo-themed cards to the amazing spreads she prepared, she took great care in the details - her expression of love, and never left a stone unturned.

She attended Cokesbury Methodist church and was an active member of Sacred Heart Wellness Center.

She's survived by her husband of 65 years, CDR Thomas House, USN (Ret); their two children, Tom House, Jr. of Pensacola, FL and Jennifer House of Atlanta, GA; her siblings, Betty Creech of Roanoke VA, Janet Deaton of Poquoson VA, and Gilbert Cross of Naples, FL; three granddaughters, Amelia, Sophie, and Lily Powell of Atlanta, GA who she loved endlessly. They were lucky enough to be on the receiving end of her crafty, thoughtfulness and they'll surely miss all the ways she made their important occasions all the more special.

Visitation will be held 12:30pm until a Memorial Service to begin at 1:00pm Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Mike Mashburn officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
