Captain Glenn Edward Serotsky, United States Coast Guard (Retired), 83, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, after a life marked by service, leadership, adventure, and complete devotion to his family.

Born on April 10, 1943, in Montebello, CA, Glenn graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy as a member of the Class of 1965 and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. Selected for naval aviation, he earned his wings as a Coast Guard helicopter pilot and remained an active aviator throughout most of his distinguished career. A skilled pilot and dedicated leader, Glenn participated in search and rescue operations and served the nation with honor during more than two decades of military service.

Throughout his Coast Guard career, Glenn held positions of increasing responsibility, including Executive Officer and Commanding Officer assignments. Among his notable leadership roles, he served as Commanding Officer of U.S. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans. He ultimately concluded his Coast Guard career at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he served in senior recruiting and personnel leadership positions. After more than 20 years of honorable service, he retired with the rank of Captain, United States Coast Guard.

Following his military retirement, Glenn continued his professional career in corporate human resources with Degussa Corporation, applying the same integrity, wisdom, and commitment to people that had characterized his military service.

While Glenn was immensely proud of his Coast Guard career, his greatest joy was his family. After meeting on a blind date in Honolulu, Hawaii, where Glenn was stationed at the time, he met and fell in love with Janie Morgan. Their love story led to marriage on June 16, 1973, in Selma, Alabama, beginning a partnership that would span more than five decades. Together they built a life grounded in faith, friendship, laughter, and love.

Glenn and Janie shared 53 years of marriage, raising a family that remained the center of his life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather who treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. Whether gathered around the dinner table, traveling together, or sharing stories from his Coast Guard days, Glenn created lasting memories and strong family bonds.

Glenn is survived by his beloved wife, Janie Serotsky; his daughter, Beth Thompson, and her husband, Jay “Bird” Thompson; his son, Matt Serotsky, and his wife, Dory Serotsky; and his cherished grandchildren, Ella, Luke, Jane, and Anna Glenn. He is also survived by his sister, Judi Quinby; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Warnelle and Marvin Beasley; and his nephews, Michael Quinby and Scott Quinby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Emma Serotsky.

Beyond his family and career, Glenn found joy on the golf course, in traveling, and in time spent with friends and loved ones. He approached life with a spirit of curiosity, service, and gratitude that left an enduring impression on everyone who knew him.

Glenn's legacy lives on through his family, the countless lives touched by his leadership, and the shipmates, friends, and colleagues who were privileged to know him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored for a life well lived.

Fair winds and following seas, Captain. Your watch is complete.

A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00am until a memorial service begins at 12:00pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Bobby Ellisor officiating. A committal service will follow at 1:30pm at Barrancas National Cemetery.
