Obituary

Glenn William Heckman, 77, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

He was born in Decatur, IL on September 2, 1944, to Bennett and Mabel Heckman. At the age of 12 the family moved to Clarke, MO where he graduated from high school and later graduated from the University of Missouri.

Glenn was a career Army Infantry Officer, who loved the Army and his country. He served in Vietnam with the 101 st Abn Division, with the Berlin Brigade in Berlin, Germany, at 8 th Army Hqtrs in Korea, with both the Army and Air Force Staff in the Pentagon, and retired at Forces Command Hqtrs in Atlanta, GA. Glenn completed his MBA at Georgia State University and later a Masters in Accounting from the University of Maryland. After military retirement he worked with the Cobb County Tax Assessors Office in Georgia. He retired to Pensacola in 2008.

He met the love of his life, Martha Rigby from Pensacola, while both working at the US Army Infantry School at Ft. Benning, GA. They were married in 1976. Glenn truly treated Martha with love and respect and they were natural soul mates. They both felt blessed to have lived full lives together.

Glenn is also survived by his sister, Barbara Lloyd (Bill); brother, Merle Heckman (Cindy); sister-in-law, Nancy Holcomb (Mike); and sister-in-law, Cindy Parden (Steve). He was adored by many nieces, nephews, and loved spending the holidays with family. Glenn made many military friends throughout this career and their comradeship was very important to him.

He was a member and Deacon of the First Christian Church in Pensacola.

Visitation will be held 10:30am until a Memorial Service to begin at 11:00am Saturday, October 23, 2021, at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, with Pastor Tim Clarke officiating. Inurnment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Memorial Fund of First Christian Church, 6031 Goodrich Dr., Pensacola, FL 32504 in his hono r.
